Walking

5.6 miles Vallorcine circular walk with kids. A prelude to the full Col du Buet. Quite a steep assent following the river before the valley opens up as it heads towards the refuge.

From Chamonix, head up the valley. Just before entering the hamlet Buet on the D1506 (before Vallorcine, 1,5 km after the Col des Montets), you have a big parking area near a restaurant. Park your car, and follow the signs.

9 mile Col du Buet. A longer version of the Vallorcine walk above.

12.8 mile circular walk from Barrats A to the peak of Brevent. Well sign posted, but chose a slightly different descent route under the lift given the quality of path.

13.8miles circular walk from Barrats A up Agile de Midi, across Balcon Nord and down to Plannards. This walk can be significantly shortened by taking the Agile de Midi lift up and hte Montenvers train down. The walk between these two points is good to do with kids.

Details of short walks to the various cremeries in the valley cab be found here.

Mountaineering

6.5 mile trip from Barrats A to the Mer De Glace for ice skill work.

Cycling
27miles  Chamonix to Megeve. 2,311ft ascent. An all round pleaseant ride.

And the return trip, Megeve to Chamonix.

36 miles  .  Return trip. Elevation gain 4,191ft.

52 miles Martingy to col de Grand St Bernard. 6,357ft ascent. Not as pleaseant a ride as Petit St Bernard, due a long section under an avalanch roof giving the impression of riding in a tunnel. The very top is the most interesting ride. Also a lot of freight traffic.

52 miles Cote de Aime to the Petit St Bernard col and back. Situated in the La Plagne valley. 5,312ft asent.

And here are some pretty pictures created by using the Garmin on Grand Montets skiing for an hour or so.
